What is counselling?

Counselling is an opportunity for a person to see a counsellor in a private and confidential way, to explore a difficulty or distress they might be experiencing.

What does a counsellor do?

A counsellor listens attentively to their client and then works with them to help them see things more clearly and perhaps from a different perspective.  Counselling does not involve giving advice or telling the client they should choose a particular course of action.

How can counselling help?

It can help people clarify their thoughts and feelings so that they can arrive at their own decisions and maybe even make major changes in their lives.

What is the aim of counselling?

The aim is for the counsellor to help their client find their own answers and to help them become more in charge of their life.

What will happen at the first counselling session?

After completing basic personal details, the counsellor will question their client about the purpose of their visit and what they’d like to achieve from counselling.

What will happen at subsequent counselling sessions?

The counsellor will seek to help their client gain clarity over what is happening in their life and through appropriate questioning help the client clarify potential solutions and assist the client to make decisions and take appropriate action.

How long will a session last?

A session usually lasts about an hour.

How many sessions will I need?

Depending upon the issue, you may find only a few sessions are necessary.  If the issue is more deep rooted, several sessions over a number of months may be required.

Will my session remain confidential?

All sessions are completely confidential.

Can I have additional support by telephone or email?

Yes you can and this can be discussed and agreed at your first session.

How do I pay?

If your session is face to face, you can pay on the day (cheque with cheque guarantee card or cash).  If you arrange telephone or email support, payment will be required in advance.

Is there a guarantee?

As there are so many variables in life, there can be no guarantee as to the outcome of your counselling.  Your counsellor will however work with you in a collaborative way to help you work through your issues and concerns to enable you to make the decisions that you feel you need to.

What do I need to do to book a session?
